WASHED UP 2015-16
WASHED UP is a series of diluted ink drawings, often little more than dirty water leaving faint stains of imagery that emerge and dissolve in elaborate compositions on the threshold of incoherence. The interlocking objects are the toys of childhood, political kitsch bobble-head figurines, religious tchotchkes, replica artifacts and souvenirs of Western Culture—often idealistic symbols of egalitarian Democracy.

In ‘A Delicate Balance,’ we find: a scale model tank resting on an upended Daniel Boone TV series metal lunch box; a terracotta bound Aztec slave sitting on a US Defense ministry seal printed on an empty cardboard doll box; a plastic buffalo, miniature guns, ceramic ‘tea party minute man’ and O'joker (President Obama painted as the Joker from The Dark Knight Batman film), bobble-head figurines, a Parthenon Museum of Knoxville souvenir coffee cup, a cloth Donald Rumsfeld doll, iron eagle wall décor, and an ancient Greek bust of a youth bearing a yarmulke from the Israeli army. They are all among the salient and evaporating elements competing for table top space.
